Quick Share

Hi Knitters,
I have a quick share for you this morning. Peachy has finally knitted up enough squares for a baby blanket. Since her squares are all different sizes she relinquished the stitching together duty to me. She has been going to a knitting club at the church across the street from our house with our neighbors. The group does tons of charity knitting on an ongoing basis. They donate to all kinds of charity groups. We don't go to the church so it is nice that they welcome my girls so readily. The group meets once a month and they serve hot chocolate and cookies. I think there is a lot of eating and hot chocolate drinking involved, maybe more so than knitting but that's what is so fun.
Anyway, Peachy has been collecting her squares in a box in her room and she finally pulled them all out. We put them all out on the table and I think those are the sweetest squares I have ever seen. Can't you just see all of the hard work that went into those squares?

I'll show you the finished blankie when I get it stitched together.
This past weekend was a full one. My son had the high school sectional swim meet on Saturday. He is so fun to watch. Can you pick out my son on the podium? Look closely, I bet you can find an identifying something....

The only reason I am showing you this photo is because I thought you all would appreciate how much I love to see my son wear his Surefire Hat (ravelry link, purchase the pattern). He NEVER takes it off! I am not kidding. Now do you see him? The reason the podium is so crowded is because this award was for the medley relay. The woman in blue would not get out of the way... grrrrr. Down in front!

Then right after the meet this same son invited the team over to our house for a couple of hours. Which is great. There were about 15 swimmers over eating, drinking and goofing around. They are a good bunch.

This same son went to the mid-winter dance that night and, of course, invited the group of 14 kids and their parents over to our house to take pre-dance photos. I don't even know how many people were there. It was a wonderful group of kids and parents. My son's date's mother told my son it was the first time she had seen him without his hat. See? Then when they were leaving for dinner my son threw on his Surefire Hat and went out the door in his tie and dress pants. So funny.

After everyone left, my husband looked at me with glazed eyes and said, "I am burned out." I seconded that motion.

Just to fill you in on my week ahead, on Friday we are hosting the swim team for a potato/pasta dinner. On Saturday it is the state swim meet and then there is an after-state dinner at a Chinese restaurant. On Sunday we are hosting the Team/Family potluck at our house. The team has 33 swimmers and each swimmer will have multiple people attending this event. How many do we think we can squeeze into our little house? We'll find out this weekend!!

One more thing, my book manuscript is due on Monday, February 22nd. That's right. That's what I said. Why, oh why?

Well, let's see how I hold up this week. Say a little prayer for me. Okay, lunch packing duty is calling my name. Have a good Monday everyone.
best, susie

Oh, how dear are those little squares- love in every stitch!
We have the same craziness at our house- only ours are hockey players. (I'm thinking swimmers probably smell better than hockey players right after a tournament?) ;) Gotta love the Mom job!!!
Enjoy the week!

No wonder you had to expand your kitchen with all those swimmers hanging around! Did you have to increase food storage areas five fold? :)

I love seeing your daughter's work - I think it is so fantastic to see both your girls knitting for charity. You must be really proud.

I love the squares Peachy knit and the fact that you have created within both your girls a caring and sharing heart. Please thank Peachy for letting you share this and your day with her last week. Your telling of your busyness with the swim team reminds me of the days my son played basketball in Jr and Sr High School. Our house was the closest to the school and was always filled with boys all over the place - on the floor, spilling out of the couch and chairs, and emptying the refrigerator! :-) The question of the day was "Who is staying for dinner?" and the first response was always "What are you having?" I can tell you are enjoying every minute of your hectic life and will continue to enjoy it in the years ahead by all the wonderful memories you are creating now. :-)

This brings back so many memories. My son swam in high school as well and we used to have the boys over for pizza after the meet that was closest to our house. They were the first team to win STATE for their school and the team has not lost since 2005. I always enjoyed having my kid's friends over and still do. Good luck with the book.

The love that is going to surround the lucky babe that get's Peachy's blanket is going to radiate right back to her ten fold. I knit my son a surfire hat two Christmas' ago and he loves it. Lined it with fleece so cozy and warm. I ordered it right away after you designed it - as there where so few knits for teenage boys. You were ahead of the fashion trend as this year tuques are everywhere. Good energy to you this busy week and you must be so grateful for your NEW awesome kitchen!

How wonderful to have three knitting females under the same roof. (Love Peachy's blanket to-be.)That says good things about you! Ah, those bottomless pit boys. My three and friends kept things lively when they were at home. It's hard work, but also means your boys are proud to have everyone gather there. Enjoy it while you can!

I remember those days. And sometimes I even miss them....... sometimes. Susan I am having trouble finding poly pellets. I located in the Twin Cities. Any ideas? I have tried Michaels, Joanne's, and Hancock. Or perhaps online? The only ones to find are tiny tiny dots. Not a good fit and no weight.

Lots of fun colors! I can't wait to see the finished product. My 9-year-old is working on her 1st baby blankie too. She'll be donating it at our church as well. Tell your daughter "Great job!" from a fellow "mom of a knitter" : ).

I wish so hard that there had been such a thing as a blog when my kids were the ages yours are! I never kept a diary or a journal but I think I would have done well with a blog. You are creating a wonderful journal/photo album for your family to enjoy in the future! Keep it up! You WILL make it through this week sane; I promise!!!

Knitting Nirvana,
I don't know what charities the church donates to. I do know they give blankets to the police dept. to give to kids and babies when their families are involved in a dire situation. They donate to hospitals, shelters, and other organizations.

It is pretty cool and they stay local.
