I have a quick 4 minute video tutorial for the Marley Topper today. I received a few requests for this tutorial so I hope this helps. For an added bonus I am joined today by my carrot-loving helper!
This hat topper can be used on any simple hat or the multi-colored hats in the book. Another idea would be to just make an extra-long strand in one color and wind that up in one piece to put on the hat. You could also put this topper on a store-bought hat or a fleece hat or maybe you could try knitting in wool and felting it to see what you get.
Have fun with it!
best, susie

Very cute! I love that you are doing the video's! They are great!
That is so funny. I was doing mine different, wasn't wrapping them together like this before I put it on. Cool! I'll have to try it this way next time.
Thanks for the great tutorial!
Jill
Your daughter is so darn cute! :)
I was borrowing your itty bitty book so much from the library that I finally went out and bought myself my own copy! I just finished a marley hat and had been putting off starting the topper so perfect timing as now it is all crystal clear what to do.
Thanks.
I just LOVE your videos Susan, you make things look much clearer and make me want to knit all the hats I see you doing. OK, next up - picot edge right ;-) I'm dying to make that little chick hat.
Thanks for the time you take to do all this.

This was sooo timely. I was completing the sweet pea hat with the vine and needed to see how this was done. So I grabbed my needles and yarn, got comfortable in front the the computer - play - pause - play - pause. I was laughing to myself because you are a super FAST knitter and it took me so long to do that. But THANK YOU for the video. I'm such a visual learner.
Hooray! i just went on Ravelry looking for help with this - & someone had posted this link on her project page. Totally clears up my issues (my strands were so twisty I didn't realize that what the book calls the "bottom row" of the tail is actually the long backbone-like thing & not just the 1st 8 stitches). Makes complete sense now.
LOVE your work, Susan! Thanks!
Thank you so much for the demo! I was making it entirely too complicated! My granddaughters love their Marleys and can't wait for me to start on the Rosebud Wreath hats!
THANK YOU! I am such a visual learner and even after reading and rereading the pattern I was stuck. It makes complete sense to see this in action. Thanks again. A wonderful tutorial! Keep them coming!!
I'm having problems with the topper. I do the first row with no problem..when I complete the 2nd row, there is always a hole between the rows,it's not tight. HELP!! any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
I'm not sure what is happening there. Keep the yarn tight when starting the new row is my best advice. The other thing is that when you roll up the topper to stitch on the hat a loose stitch in between the rows won't really matter.
Thanks Susan...it seems like I can't keep the yarn tight enough when casting on the next row. I'll keep working at it...thanks again!

I didn't have any luck using the backward loop to make the curly bits, so I tried a knitting cast-on and it worked beautifully. The backward loop made them long and stringy.

Hi there,
I'd love to knit this beautiful hat for my nieces for xmas, what are the chances you could send me the pattern? I love the topper too and will follow this video.
Thanks in advance,
