Weekly Hodge Podge

Hi Knitters,
Here's a taste of what is happening over at my house....

I am working on the pattern for the Quaker Ridge Shawlette. It should be ready very soon and I'll keep you posted. (Here is the rav link for the shawl.) This morning though, I did do some knitting. I finished the sleeves and button bands for this new top-down seamless baby hoodie design. I have two adorable buttons at the ready as soon as the wool dries. The yarn is the beautiful and yummy Quince & Co. in Lark. Check it out right here!

This is another sample for my Vogue Knitting Live class this Oct. 28th from 2-5pm in Chicago. I have about 7 different options for the basic baby cardigan so far to choose from for the students taking the class. It should be pretty fun. I hope to see you there! I heard from the event coordinator at Vogue that this class is almost sold out now, too.

All of these these new baby patterns will be published and made available at a later date for purchase.

I have started winding the small amounts of handspun yarn leftover from knit projects into tiny balls leaving enough at the end to make a loop and tie a knot. They are like little ornaments. I don't know why but they look larger in the photo than in person. The biggest one is about an inch big.

TC brought home a puppy that belongs to some kids she babysits. The kids came over with her, too, and they played outside for a long time. The puppy is so cute, obviously. TC just loved him. His name is Bucky. I guess the kids named him.

I am spinning up this gorgeous roving from Sunshine Yarns called Desert Cactus.

I pre-drafted and wound it into these fluffy roving balls just waiting to be spun. I can't wait to finish this up to see the final outcome but it is taking long because I have 8oz. and it is going to be a three-ply yarn in the end. I'll share when it is finished.

I finally started Laura Linneman's My Hope shawl in Cakewalk Yarns sock yarn in the Smirk colorway. Oh, that yarn is good. It is gray with speckles of beautiful colors thrown in. I love both the yarn and pattern so much. This is a perfect match.

For some reason I am getting bunches of new sign-ups in my Craftsy Wee Ones Seamless Knit Toys online class. I mean hundreds and hundreds of new students over the past week. I am not sure why, but I am certainly happy to see everyone over on Craftsy. I still check in at least several times a week to answer questions and to see new finished projects.

Anyway, if you are one of the new students, thank you for joining me on Craftsy! The elephant above is included in the class along with the patterns for a hippo and bunny. All three toys are knit from the top-down and are seamless, including the top-down sweater. The class is jam-packed with fun toy knitting techniques and tips. You learn a lot while making some cute little Wee Ones knit toys.

So that's what has been happening around here. What's going on at your house this week? I'd love to hear about it. I have two or three reviews and giveaways coming right up so keep your eyes out if interested.
best, susie

I did get an e-mail recently about a craftsy.com sale, and your Wee Ones class was just $4.99! Of course, I had signed up a long time ago, but I told all my knitting friends (and admirers of my finished toys) about the sale. Also, my mom just started the giraffe course, and she LOVES it! Just wanted to pass that along...

Elisha - well that explains that! what a deal! Craftsy is always having sales and deals and keeping things active. How wonderful:) Thanks for letting me know and I am so glad your mom is having fun with the giraffe.

All the yarns are wonderful and I SO love the orange and grey together! Can't wait to see that design out.
Okay I need to hide the pic of TC and Bucky. Jojo will bug me about wanting a dog.
We are laying low. School starts Monday. Been waking up the girls early to get them conditioned. Cleaned out old teacher bins; finally giving up my teacher stuff. I loaded five, shopping bags of stuff into my trunk to deliver Friday to my old school.

Can't wait for your new shawl pattern! I must say, I love it on your daughter.

I look forward to your post on your yarn spinning. Someday I'm going to give it a shot. In the meantime, I just dyed my first skein of cotton worsted.....in a long run in rainbow! Can't wait for the 6-8 hours to go buy to rinse! I used a Tulip Tie Dye kit! If it works out, grey and yellow or grey and orange are next!

Best,
Sheila

The baby cardigan is so sweet! I am thinking about making cardigans for my 11 month old and 3 1/2 year old, but I have only made the wee ones sweater and a cell phone sweater (really!) so I'm a little intimidated... I took my finished texture blanket to the local knitting guild meeting, and they loved your pattern- of course!

I spent the day in teacher staff developments and working late in my classroom! School starts next week here in Myrtle Beach. I miss summer and knitting the days away! Your blog post was just what this tired teacher needed to see! :)

Summer is winding down for me and next week is back to school. Fortunately, the first 3 days are mostly meetings, which means, in-service project(!!) a small project, not fancy, so that I can pay attention to the meeting AND not distract those sitting next to me. (Most faculty hate faculty meetings. I love them, for the knitting time) I just started the/your "pumpkin hat" and sovunless I finish it over the weekend, I will take that. Otherwise, I am trying to finish my "summer project" list and sew a couple of project bags.

Love the cardigan. Baby knits are so fun and satisfying. Yep, I got in a great Craftsy deal too. My kids just love knit toys and so does the eternal little girl inside me.

Love all your new creations. I would say the elephant is super cute but I'm afraid the puppy wins paws down. No wonder TC brought him home.

Craftsy had a booth at Stitches Midwest this past weekend. It drew alot of attention which may be why you are seeing alot of folks registering.

I am one who signed up for your Craftsy class. I have had a lot of fun with it and am on my second wee one. I wanted to take it before I start the sock yarn bunny which I have pattern and yarn all ready for a Christmas gift for my granddaughter. You are so inspiring. Love your blog.

I think there was an article about the online communities, and Craftsy was mentioned in Spin Off I saw at my friends house on Saturday, maybe the issue just came out and they have had more traffic!
