My New Friend Agnes

Hi Knitters,
On my kitchen table this morning is the forever going game of Yahtzee and my new sweater friend, Agnes. The constant Yahtzee playing has been going on since our trip to Door County last August. The house we stayed at had a Yahtzee game just waiting for the Anderson family to dig in. The love of this dice game followed us home where we had a small travel Yahtzee set in a cupboard. It's been found and has been a constant for months now. There could be anywhere from 1 to 5 players at anytime. I often sit and knit nearby while the others play.

Now for my friend, Agnes, which you may be more interested in anyway. A few days ago I was hankering for a new sweater project so I wound 7 hanks of Quince & Co. Puffin in the Bark #121 colorway. I have had this yarn for quite some time now and when I saw the new Quince & Co. Wool Book One by Melissa LaBarre and Cecily Glowik MacDonald, I knew I had to make Agnes with the Puffin I had sitting on my shelf.

I love everything about Agnes, the big yarn knit on US size 11 needles, the top-down and seamless construction, the surprise side pockets and the easy casual style of the sweater in general that is a signature of Melissa LaBarre's designs. It is perfection. The Quince & Co. pattern is available in the ebook called, Wool Book One or as an individual pattern purchased through Ravelry.

Here is the hole for my pocket just waiting to be picked up and knit with Quince & Co. Osprey in the Bird's Egg colorway. I think the bird's egg blue will be a winning combination with the rich bark color. I am already on the second sleeve and those pockets will knit up so quickly. After a good blocking, I think this sweater is destined to become a favorite throw on for this winter and many more to come.

I will share a few knitted Christmas gifts coming up shortly or as soon as I finish them. Even with all of the busyness of my work knitting recently I am still trying to squeeze in a few homemade gifts. What are you all knitting on for the holiday season this year? I would love to hear about it.

best, susie

What a cute, simple sweater to knit up! And those side pockets in another color? Way adorable.
Quince & Co. always have such cute styled photos for their projects.
I have never played Yahtzee. I must check that game out.
I need to knit one Christmas beanie in the city's baseball team's colors. I have a Pay-It-Forward beanie to do also. My knitting mojo needs a kick in the behind as I lost it after dissatisified w/this other Pay-It-Forward gift. But I'll try to start on a beanie today. So much to do...sigh.

Love this sweater (and Yahtzee too). It's a great family game for all ages. I have been knitting beanies, cloches, ruffled and ruched scarves, socks, sweaters, and beanies. Yeeks, I need to hurry and finish these gifts. Almost done.

What a beautiful sweater! Is the yarn superwash?
I've started my third and last pair of mittens. One pair for each of my nieces. The clock is ticking down!

Yahtzee is great, as soon as my kids are a little bigger we'll start playing. I'm knitting 3 wrap up puppies, a fairy and purse from your pattern in Knit Simple and crocheting 3 dinosaurs. I love making toys for my little ones. Thanks for the great patterns!

Susan, I just want to rub my face in that new sweater! Gorg! Can't wait to see it finished!

My hand made gift this year is my Chunky Chocolate & Vanilla Twist Mobius! Super quick and easy, but with spectacular results! Everyone on my list is getting one and a few more under the tree!

Then, I'm off to your Wee Ones Class at Craftsy.com for some fun down time!
Best,
Sheila

I've made two slouchy hats, one for my neice and one for my son's girlfriend. I have a third on the needles--because I lost of of the ones I made temporarily! I had hidden it because I have a cat who LOVES yarn and carries my skeins or knit--or partially-knit items around!!! I made a ruffly scarf and crocheted a shawl. I sewed a darling sock knitting bag for a friend who makes socks often, it's on Terri Atkinson's blog as a free pattern (she's a quilt designer). I've also been knitting lots of other non-Christmas gifts. FUN!

I might have to tackle that sweater in the new year! I've got to finish up one of your owls from Knit Simple for my daughter's 1st grade teacher--their classroom theme is owls so it is absolutely perfect for them! My 15 year old niece requested "mittens with some sort of cable or buttons or something" from me, going to give "Bella's Mittens" a try. Making a mini sweater ornament in Packer colors for my newphew/Godson, too! Yikes! And I want to get started on the patterns from the children's book "Phoebe's Sweater" for my own daughter Phoebe (the 1st grader). So many projects... so little time!! Good thing I'm pretty much done with Christmas prep!

It looks adorable and I'm sure it will be a GREAT sweater. Not a good shape for me, I'm afraid... The pockets are in the worst possible place. :(

Really, really like Agnes. She's calling my name! Christmas knitting is not going great at my house. I have done those Kidsilk Creation scarves as a fun gift for all the daughters-in-law and grand-daughters, but not much else is actually finished. :(
