Love the additions you made to the Sheep Heid hat. I had the same experience struggling with the subtle color variation of the pattern and matching it to the yarn in the kit. One thing I do with all my snipped ends: My husband is an avid birder, with feeders everywhere on our property. I save all my snips for him to set out during nesting season. Three to five large Mason jars full are typically gone within days.
