Almost
Hi Knitters,
Well, this week has most certainly gotten away from me. I was planning a couple posts but the time flew by and I've had so much knitting to get done and then there's that fantastic Patchwork Sockalong that is going like gangbusters and needs tending to. I didn't get to the posts but I know you'll understand.
Click here to see some of the finished Patchwork Socks from the knitalong! It's pretty amazing.
I did get to taking a couple of quick photos of TC and her little buddy (our neighbor) who is like the little sister TC never had. Little Buddy is about 4 years younger than TC and they are friends to the end. In fact, the girls have a yodel they yell out the back door and if the yodel is returned by the neighbor friend they run into the other's yard. It is really funny and cute and it beats a cell phone by a mile in my opinion.
It seems like this is the time of year where the word almost is in almost every sentence. We're almost done with school, summer is almost here, finals are almost here, the weather is almost warm enough to swim, the sun sets at almost 9pm, the pool is almost open with regular hours, swim team is almost starting, graduation is almost a week away.... You get the picture.
And yes, I do have another son graduating from high school this year. It is a bittersweet time for us. I have to start imagining having two sons going off to college next fall and when I do I quickly push it to the back of my mind. Only two girls at home next year? I don't have to think about it quite yet. I still have a couple of months of contentment. I am a homebody and therefore I like it when all of my chicks are in the nest but I know it can't stay that way forever. Of course I want them to go on and have fabulous lives (but not too far away). I really am proud of all of them, my kids and my siblings' kids. They are a cool bunch to follow.
Little fairies were sprinkled about TC's fairy garden this afternoon. The girls worked on this for quite awhile after school. I'll take some photos soon to share the fairy garden in all its glory. It is quite sweet back there. TC has been planting flowers and ferns and ground cover. We have to re-do her bird bath fairy gardens soon. Click here to see her birdbath fairy gardens from last summer.
The day ended with fairy sprinkling in the garden and a popsicle in a sunny hammock. Honestly, the other thing you can't beat besides a backyard yodel is a pair of printed tights with a comfy dress.
It all sounds pretty good to me.
I'll be back soon with some fun knitting stuff, I promise!
Happy weekend, dear Knitters.
best, susie

Amazing socks!!
Posts like this one just make me feel warm all over. Lovely!!
How special to have a friend and a their own yodel and backyard fun. Thinking about you this summer and hope it's a nice long one! The sockalong is great fun and I hope it inspires even more knitters to try socks! Great post, Susie! Nicky momoffour
Posts like this are what makes me convinced that even if you weren't an amazing designer/knitter, we would still be friends. We share the same values and love of family! Spend as much time as you can with those kids cause they will scatter sooner than you want!
Have a great weekend, my friend!
Your kids are so lucky. I wish I had had a childhood like that.

Milestones! I'm sending my oldest son off to sleep away camp for a week for the first time tomorrow. Graduation from high school seems a long way off yet I bet it will feel like a blink when I look back. Happy Almost Graduation weekend. Happy current moment!
Kids, they grow up so fast but they do come back home. Trust me I have college daughter and she does come back home from time to time.
It's nice to have that special friend who you can have fun in your backyard and create your own special yodel.
Have fun girls and enjoy it.
I'm feeling at bit of that now as my kids are getting older. I can scarce believe that in 4 yrs the house will be kidless.
I love this post! My students finished school on Friday, and I go back for a workday on Monday. Then it's summer for me! Since I live at the beach we have been swimming, beaching and popsicle eating since April! Enjoy your sweet summer Susan! :) Julia
I have been gone for a few months. I had my third baby in three years last November and the shift from two to three has kept me pretty well occupied. (Translation- I don't sleep, I hardly remember to eat and I think I showered yesterday or maybe it was two or three days ago.)
And so I had to go back a ways and catch up on what is happening in your world and your designing world. A lot. In many ways, there has been a lot more going on with you than I have experienced in my life.
Congrats on child no. 2 graduating! I can only begin to imagine how bittersweet this is. Yesterday my oldest "graduated" from her first year in special education preschool, and THAT made me emotional!
And writing that made me remember that I have been following your designs and blog for well over three years . . . Wow! You helped contribute to my recovery from post partum depression all those years ago by rekindling, or rather setting ablaze!, the old friend I had in knitting. And having now had two more babies and not suffering the way I did with the first, I just want to say again- Thank you!
Wow; another graduate? How awesome! Ho'omaka'i to him.
I love the pics of TC and her buddy. Those are such sweet and precious moments.
I can be a homebody too. Altho I like having a break sometimes w/my girls getting spoiled at their Bella's house, I do miss their innocent chatter and antics.
I am going to be in Madison this summer. Can you recommend any great shops or stops to make? I love to sew and knit and am traveling with my husband and two young children. Thanks!
