Hi, Knitters,

Here is the LINK for Yarnover.
A couple of weeks ago my latest book was published, Susan B. Anderson's Kids' Knitting Workshop. Today I am very excited to share a little bit about it with you. I have been teaching kids to knit for many years now. I have taught kids in small groups, individually, and through my daughters' Girl Scout Troops and in a lot of different settings. Do any of you remember these photos from TC's Girl Scout Troop's knitting lessons at my house in 2009?
If you want to see and read more about how I taught the Girl Scouts to knit Click Right Here!
First of all, this book was a labor of love on two topics that are near and dear to my heart, kids and knitting. The book is geared to reach 8-12 year olds but it is a good book for any age person, including adults, wanting to learn how to knit. The book takes you step-by-step through the basics of knitting in the round as the ideal place to start, and lesson-by-lesson techniques are added through tutorials and projects. If the beginning knitter works through the book she/he will come away with a great base of knowledge about knitting, and could tackle any number of projects out there in the world of patterns. It's exciting to think about.
Click here to see the Kids' Knitting Workshop on Amazon! (I am not an affiliate, by the way.)
Included in the book are 17 do-able, snappy projects that are fun and appealing for a wide age-range but will also hold young attention spans. Most of the projects are fairly quick and are knit on needles ranging from a US size 7 to a US size 13 or so. There are a couple of slightly bigger projects including a tube scarf and a pillow.
The photography, by New York City-based photographer Lauren Volo, is fun and bright, and the models are adorable. One aspect of the book that I am especially impressed by is the illustrated tutorials by Alison Kolesar. Alison is a remarkable artist. I would provide a photo of my hands doing a certain technique and then Alison would create the illustrations to show exactly what I intended. It was a really fun and successful aspect of the book. Both of these creative women were wonderful and added so much to the pages of the book.

Hi Susan,
This book is coming at a perfect time for me. I am teaching my daughter and her friend how to knit, they're in their 40's. My two grand daughters 6 & 8 are interested in learning to knit. It sounds like this will be the perfect book for all four of them. Looking forward to buying a few copies (and hopefully winning one) over the next few days.

I have been wanting your new book so much. With 13 grandchildren, needless to say there are some eager knitters coming up. I cannot think of a better skill to help them learn. It will enrich their lives just as knitting has done for mine. Thanks so much for this opportunity.

I am so excited about this book! I have always loved your techniques, Susan, and I look forward to using this book to teach my granddaughters and grandson to knit. One of my granddaughters, Emerson, is only 7 months old, and she gets so excited when she sees wool, or my projects, or when I'm knitting! She crawls over to a big knitted pillow I made and buries her face in it and gurgles. (Yes, this baby really gurgles!) I can't wait to teach her to knit! ~ Carole, 3strands on Ravelry.

I would love to teach my granddaughters to knit. They are 5, 7, and 10, and are always excited about my knitting. The 10 year old, Madi, knows some basic knitting skills, and Londyn, who is 7 loves all things arts and craftsy. Hailyn, who is 5 is left handed, so that will be a challenge. Hi Susan!
I have three daughters aged 7, 12, and 14 and have taught them each to knit. Of course, they are at varying levels and interests so I think different projects would appeal to them. I thought the fox pillow and kitty would interest my youngest, Maryn. She just finished knitting a scarf for her stuffed animal, Snowdrop. I think the hats and cowl would appeal to my older two since they are now starting to knit gifts for their friends. Thank you so much for the opportunity for this giveaway, I would love to add a signed copy of your latest book to my collection.

I really get excited to hear that kids are knitting. My neighbours children go to a private school and they both boys have taken knitting in their classroom. I find that so exciting. I too have taught many kids and adults how to knit. I get such a thrill out of teaching others to knit. Most recently my chiropractor told me that his two teenage daughters are teaching themselves how to knit so for Christmas this year I knit them each a santa hat that I found the pattern for and gave it to them with the pattern so they can knit their own. I was happy to hear that they were thrilled with their hats and the pattern. I recently taught a friend to knit dishcloths when we drove across Canada this summer! Now she's hooked!! Anyway thank you for the opportunity!! I am suecutt on ravelry.

I'd love to win a copy of the book to take with me and leave with her. I've been reading through the book and though I've been knitting seriously for the last few years I picked up a few new tips. First, congratulations on your new book Susan - looks fantastic! I've just sent a request to our local library for them to purchase it for their collection. Its based in a large suburb full of young families and I think there are a lot of children who would enjoy it. I suspect though that my 8-year-old daughter will need her own copy! I think your book would be a perfect way to move towards this skill! Having said that, my 3-year-old son asked for knitting needles the other day so that he could knit a basket for his little friend's birthday, so he may be the one who needs it on his shelf. Makes my heart sing!

HI Susan- I have been a knitter now for about 3 years. Many, many years ago my grandmother taught me to crochet. Now I have a 9 year old granddaughter, Lauren, who is showing some interest in learning how to knit. I would love to receive a copy of your book to help me teach Lauren how to knit.
I have been following you for about a year now thanks to my sister. You are an amazing knitter. I am hoping to see you at the yarn shop in Sarasota, Florida the end of March.

Congratulations on your new book! My grandchildren would love to learn to knit, so winning your book and the yarn would be fabulous. And if I don't win, I will just have to buy myself a copy! :)
On Ravelry, I am organicjavalover.
I love your new book! I've also taught many kids how to knit (although I doubt as many as YOU have!) Five of my six kids are knitters and I've taught many of their friends to knit as well as several classes of high schoolers. What I love most about your book is that you start with a hat on circular needles which is also my favorite way to start anyone off with knitting. :) I like the patterns, the size of the book and especially your writing and explanations. I think it will be a wonderful book for anyone to have in their knitting library. I am not sure who I will teach next - nieces, friends of my kids, high schoolers (at the request of a teacher), ???
Thank you for a wonderful giveaway and another wonderful book.

What a clever book. I'd love to see inside it. So many great projects.

The legwarmers would be a beautiful project!
In the cold season my hats and shawls help me with the recruitment of new knitters at any age! People ask and some want to learn. During summer they just wonder about my nonstop knitting...

What a fun book! I love the range of projects. I am looking forward to teaching my kids how to knit, and I think they would have a lot of fun making the projects in this book.
I couldn't wait, so already have a copy of this book (but would love to win a signed one!) and was especially excited to see the leg warmer photo come up first under your favorites in this post - I want to make some! I will also be hosting a 'knit night' in February with several new and aspiring knitters expected, and I think any of them could benefit from this book, even though they're not exactly 'kids.' :) Starting out on circulars is such a great strategy, though I'd certainly never thought of it before reading this book. It's wonderful to think of all the young (and older) folks who will get such a great introduction to our craft from your writing - I think I have all your books, Susan, but this was an especially welcome addition to my library. Thank you! I'm 'peepsmom' on Revelry.

I looked at the patterns on your blog and went to Amazon immediately to order the book. I have an 8 year old foster daughter that I would love to teach to knit and the patterns are right up her alley of things she loves (snowman, fox). I tried a small loom for weaving with no success and the knit in the round plastic knitting hoops with no success but they are pretty boring projects compared to the projects in this book. I am entering to win a signed copy of the book and can donate the book I have purchased to the library so other children in my small Alaska town can learn from it if I am lucky enough to be a winner in this contest!
lots of lovely knitting going on around here. Love the
fox cushion. Very cute.
Cheers, Anita.
Wow this is a fabulous giveaway as always. If I win, I will be teaching a couple of children in my neighborhood to knit. I love it when a child learns a new skill and is thrilled with themselves and this would be a good way to instill the love of knitting and make sure the craft goes on through the generations.l

I already bought two copies - on the day they came out! - but would love another one to give away! The first one was the kit from StevenBe for my 11 year old daughter, and the second one I purchased at Barnes and Noble for my daughter's best friend. They are both starting big with the hat. Same color yarn, different pom-poms. I think if I won, I'd maybe donate the book to our school library. Thanks for all the great give-aways, Susan!

I have learned many things from you and can appreciate all your books and patterns. Because of your blog I knit my first pair of socks at 68yrs and went to knit a pair for my granddaughter and grand-niece. I was thinking of teaching a local Girl Scout Troop how to knit and your book will come in handy. Thank you for all your wonderful blogs and podcasts. Keep up the good work. Your new book and projects are super-appealing for young (and older) fingers. The snowman project is adorable and perfect for someone who would like to learn to knit without feeling pressure to create something to wear. And there are plenty of young people who enjoy creating their own clothes and accessories, so the hat, cowl, and legwarmers will surely be popular as well. The Leana yarn is a burst of woolly cheer!

I just got your book from the library after reading about it on a blog. I have knit on straight needles for many years, but I've only tried circular needles once (unsuccessfully.) I think your book will be the ticket to get me going on them! I like many of the projects, but the snowman and infinity scarf are my favorites. I have three girls (teens and early twenties.)
