Hi Knitters,
Remember when I said I had been cleaning out my knitting studio? One thing I came across while sorting was a lot of left over sock yarn odds and ends. It's a pretty sure bet that many of you have this same situation.
Well, after stewing around on this idea for months and enviously looking at these examples....
Did you look at those incredible socks? Yup, that's what I'm doing.
I gathered my quickly increasing pile of sock yarn oddballs, blindly grabbed a skein, cast on, and now it will begin....
What do you say? If you want to join me in conquering the fingering weight yarn piles around you, gather your odds and ends of sock yarn and meet me back here!

I love the ideas especially an afghan you could start it now and then keep adding as you have more leftover yarn.

ReplyDeleteNow you tell me! I am committed to two others for making socks, and now this pops up and I cannot take time to do it. Bummer! Plus 3 other skeins awaiting my attention for other socks ... I think I see a pattern here, and I don't mean more socks. Oh, well ... I will get to it.
ReplyDeleteI have so much leftover sockyarn that it has been no problem to pick yarns that look good together. I like to use about six different yarns and eight-round stripes. They are amazingly satisfying and surprisingly pretty.

ReplyDeleteyou're killing me susan! i don't have many sock yarn scraps but a ton of worsted. you're making me want to start something fun with my scraps but i need to finish all the things i have planned for the new baby in june !!

ReplyDeleteIf I get to the point where I have enough bits and bobs of sock yarns taking up space in my stash, I'll probably want in on this. But that's going to take awhile, I think...since I'm only on my 4th and 5th pairs of socks right now.

ReplyDeleteGreat patterns! I'm sure you've seen along the lines the pattern for a blanket that uses sock yarns - individual hexagons (or octagons, something) that are attached to one another while knitting... ea one out of different sock yarns... so pretty! Can be a multi year project for all of the leftover yarns... I can try to find the pattern if you're at all interested. ( :

ReplyDeleteAnother idea I saw for sock yarn is a scarf knit on the diagonal. It was on display at our local yarn store. The stripey pattern was a terrific blend of colors. If memory serves me today, there are probably links to various patterns online.

There is a sweater and pattern displayed at my favorite local knit shop, Mass. Avenue Knits, in Indianapolis that uses a variety of multi-colored and self-striping sock yarns doubled with solid sock or fingering yarn. If the solid color is carried throughout is makes a cohesive tweedy, colorful sweater.
