Early on the Eve

Hi, Knitters,
I awoke very early on this Christmas Eve morning to finish the toe of the last of the socks to be gifted tomorrow. Much coffee has already been had and I am pleased as punch to finish the pair. These are going to a family member who requested only a pair of handknit socks from me.

The wish is granted.

The yarn is Patons Kroy Socks in the Singin' the Blues colorway. It's unanimous that everyone around here loves the stripes and colors. I've had two more requests for this same yarn and more socks. I'll need a quick breather and then maybe I can come back to it again. It's definitely a good unisex colorway.

I'm so excited for Christmas this year. It all feels so good and happy. Having my grown kids home and tucked in their beds makes me feel whole and content. There is so much excitement and change going on in all of their lives and it is fun to see who they are becoming as young adults. I looked across the dinner table filled with our mostly adult children and asked my husband, "Can you believe we did this?"

We are all enveloped in home and love.

I hope love surrounds you this holiday season and for the rest of the new year to come. Thank you for sharing so much with me, sweet Knitters.

See you on the other side.....

  1. My sentiments exactly! Grown children home for Christmas, laughing, joking, hugging and loving. Their presence is gift enough!

  2. Wishing you a very Merry Christmas. You are my mentor and the first thing I look for in my inbox. You have inspired me to be a better knitter and try new things, especially toys for my new grandbabies. Just wait! There is nothing better in life.
Looking forward to taking a class from you in 2015!

  3. Grown kids home is a great thing! We're awaiting the arrival of our daughter and family who will be here by afternoon. Their kids are teenagers who get bored quickly with all this sentimental "stuff", but that's okay, too. They'll understand some day.
Merry Christmas to you and yours!

  5. Susan, what a sweet cherry on top, all of your kids home, you deserve a pat on the back. Being a mom is sometimes the biggest challenge we face. Nice work! And the socks, love them. I showed them to my teenaged daughter and she might be willing to wear a pair:) my oldest does not appreciate my knitting as much, which is a double edged sword. More time to knit for me but sad she doesn't love a good hand knit. Well, yet anyways! Happy holidays! P.s. New Sarah Addison Allen book comes out January 21...I have three pre-ordered:)

  8. I am gifting this exact same ColorWay in your vanilla sock pattern to my son tomorrow! The amazing thing is that his feet are now bigger than mine and the nostalgia of how small he was at birth is not lost on me.

    Merry Christmas!

  13. Merry Christmas Susan. The socks are lovely. My 86 year old MIL had knitted socks with the same yarn for all of her grandchildren again this year! Aren't knitted gifts the best!
