Hi, Knitters,
The day has finally come where I can share my next book with you! I have never been more excited and proud of a collection of knit toys than the one in Topsy-Turvy Inside-Out Knit Toys. Included in the book are twelve magical two-in-one reversible toys for you to knit. You may remember the Reversibles chapter in Itty-Bitty Toys? This book is a full-blown extension of that chapter. Topsy-Turvy Inside-Out is an entire book of toys that turn upside-down, reverse, flip inside-out and change into something else. The toys included in Topsy-Turvy Inside-Out are clever, memorable, cute, and most of all, plain old fun!
The cover kicks off the book in the perfect way. There is a pull-tab up on the top of the front cover. The text underneath the tab directs you to "pull and smile" and hopefully you will. I sure did! When you pull on the tab you get to see the striped bunny turn into a sweet lamb right before your eyes! It is such an energetic and fun cover and it only scratches the surface of the magical projects you'll find on the pages inside. Adults will love this pull-tab as much as the kids.
The other great thing about Topsy-Turvy Inside-Out is that it is packed-full with tutorials. The book has step-by-step photographed tutorials where I get to take you through the techniques you need to create your own beautifully-crafted handknit toys. The photographs are of my own hands actually doing the techniques for you. It is like I am sitting right next to you at the kitchen table. My hope is that these tutorials will be incredibly helpful for all toy knitters from beginner to experienced.
Without further ado, Topsy-Turvy Inside-Out Knit Toys is now up and available for pre-order. To find out more or to pre-order click here and click here. The book will be on the bookshelves of your favorite stores, including yarn shops, in March 2013. I will be previewing the book in much more detail closer to the publication date. I have lots of fun plans in the works, including travel and appearances, so stay tuned!
Now, with great pride and pleasure, I present to you the video book trailer for Topsy-Turvy Inside Out Knit Toys. For email subscribers, if you can't see the video on this post, click here to see the book trailer directly on YouTube.
Isn't that video the best? The toys jump off the screen and come to life. I love it. I hope you are as excited about this new book as I am.
Please let me know what you think! I'd love to hear from you.
best, susie

ReplyDeleteAdorable & inventive. Such fun! One of my daughter's favorites when she was young was a wee tiger which converted to a globe. She named him "Ti-Ti-Glo-Glo" and for at least a year of her life could not go to bed without him. Your designs look like the sort of toy that will be well loved by children and adults alike.
ReplyDeleteOh my gracious, this is awesome! I can't wait for the book, these are the cutest toys of ever. Each time a new one popped up on the video, I thought "That's my favorite". Then a new one came up and I thought "this is my favorite........."

ReplyDeleteHaving made 4 of your reversible toys from Itty Bitty Toys, 2 of which I created by your instructions helped me do different creatures. They were so much fun to make - I look forward to your new book!
ReplyDeleteWow, this is fantastic!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for the book to come out.

ReplyDeleteSusan, your new book looks wonderful! I love the squirrel and the dino! My 2 year old son watched the video with me and was very excited about the toys too. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun book!! I can't wait to get it as well. I love the dinosaur/egg toy. I was not expecting a dinosaur to hatch! Super fun.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, that's a baby alligator, not a dinosaur - but you could make yours a dinosaur! I just thought that was funny:)
ReplyDeletesusan
Amazed as always by your creativity and energy.
ReplyDeleteLove them all!!!! When my daughter was small, she was given a little red riding hood doll that reversed into the big bad wolf. She adored playing with it!

Who could help smiling with that video? Just what my spirits needed. Have already preordered my copy!
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteThat is the best video I have ever seen. I like how the toys come to life to switch. Thanks for including toys for boys, so many are just dolls. I will be making all the boy ones for my two precious great nephews. I have already pre ordered my copy. Now I just have to wait until March. The way time has been flying by it won't take long at all. I have all your books and the are all terrific. I know this one will also be terrific. You are so talented and what a great idea for a knitting book.

ReplyDeleteThe video is great and the animals are amazing. They remind me of a Little Red Riding Hood/Big Bad Wolf doll I had as a child.
ReplyDeleteSqueal!!! Congratulations Susie ~ you are amazingly talented! I cannot wait to get this book and make every single thing for the littles in my life!
ReplyDeleteLove the video, can't wait to see the book!
ReplyDeleteLovely! Cant wait to have it! BTW are many/some of these one-piece/seamless? I struggle with the many small pieces that toys demand!
ReplyDeleteJaya - yes, many of the toys are seamless! i made a special effort to make things as easy and streamlined as possible. The dolls, for example, are completely seamless, top-down in the round, in one piece!
ReplyDeletethanks for asking.
Wonderful, Susan! Can't wait to purchase... and that video is so clever and charming!
ReplyDeleteFantastic - can't wait to start. Your video is so cute - this is a great challenge for the new year - so excited to start. Video lessons on the horizon?

ReplyDeleteAlso, hooray on such lovely ohana time in the last post and awesome spinning in the one before.
I love the book and will be pre-ordering it!
ReplyDeleteI loved the chapter in your Itty-Bitty Toys book and I actually knitted the Squirrel/Hedgehog that was in Simply Knitting :) So excited that you decided to devote a whole book to topsy-turvey toys :D
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderful book. Any chance anybody knows the song that is associated with the Youtube video of the book?
ReplyDeleteThere, I just asked my local library to purchase this book. I sure hope they do, because I'm broke.
ReplyDeleteThe projects look great! Very unique and creative!
I am working on the bunny & lamb project and I am having trouble following the pattern for starting the lamb's body. Is something missing? Please help! Thanks.
ReplyDeleteHi, Susan,
ReplyDeleteI don't think there is anything missing, I just checked. You are picking up the stitches to get started.
susan
Susan - Your inventiveness is terrific! I recently bought the book and I'm making the snowman & Christmas tree. I admit I'm a bit confused by something that I didn't see explained anywhere in the book...
ReplyDeleteAs directed, I've knit the snowman. The directions say, "Stuff the head with fiberfill." But it doesn't tell me do draw anything tight around the neck, now or with the scarf, so what will hold that fiberfill in place? Once I start with the tree I won't have access to make changes/fixes, so I don't want to screw this up.
Thanks for helping me!
Peg,
ReplyDeleteThe other side, the tree, will be pushed up inside the snowman and will hold the fiberfill in place. I didn't do anything further to secure the stuffing and mine has been heavily used as I teach and tour and it has stayed in place perfectly.
If you are uncomfortable you could take a length of yarn and sort of string it across the opening a couple of times to add a barrier.
Thanks for the email.
Susan
Thanks so much for your clear - and QUICK - reply, Susan. I'm glad to get back to making this toy for my grandson! I'm planning to make the fox & hen, too. :-)
