Hi Knitters,
I hope you all had a great weekend. It was an unseasonably warm and weather record breaking one for us. We enjoyed the great outdoors all weekend long which is always fun.
I have two book reviews for you this morning, both are aimed at children. If you are anything like me, you enjoy the illustrated picture books just as much if not more than the kids. I am a children's book collector of sorts.
The first book is called, Extra Yarn, by Mac Barnett (I might have said Mark in the video), and it is illustrated by Jon Klassen. The story and illustrations are fun and interesting and really different. I love this book and so do many other knitting bloggers, podcasts, and sites. I have seen Extra Yarn reviewed just about everywhere you could think of ....click here to read another review and see more illustrations from the book.
The other book I reviewed in the video is Crafty Chloe by, Kelly DiPucchio and illustrated by, Heather Ross. I forget to mention her name, Heather Ross, while I am talking about her accomplishments as an illustrator and sewing and fabric designer. Click here for Heather's other book, and click here for her blog. Crafty Chloe is such a sweet and clever story about how being yourself works out for the best in the end. I love this one, too.
I have a few more knitting book reviews set for this week and a giveaway and a new pattern release. I've been knitting away on some new work projects and neglecting my personal projects a bit. I'll get back to some of those this week, hopefully.

That is so funny! I have both of these books in my cart on Amazon right now to give my girls (6 & 4) in their Easter baskets!

ReplyDeleteI've long thought that a true mark of success would be having a children's story published. We often give books as baby presents and the Extra Yarn book will have to go on the list. Thanks for sharing Susan.
ReplyDeleteWhat a funny coincidence! I saw Extra Yarn in my local bookstore this weekend and bought two copies - one for my daughter, and one to give to her school. I love the underlying message of generosity and sharing.

The books look very cool, I must look them out one day - for myself that is! I find it encouraging that you too worry about handing over a handmade gift, people's reactions aren't always what you expect them to be! :)

ReplyDeleteSusan, I have a question about the Little Chicks hat..... I have completed most of the hat and have made the chicks' bodies and heads and have attached them so far. My problem is that I think when I started the picot edge, my first and last stitches did not "join"...
ReplyDeleteI have tried the picot edge and it is "disconnected".... I think because of my join not being correct.
Do you have a suggestion ? I definitely know how to join in the round, but have never done it as and edging where I am adding it to something.

I hope this doesn't show up twice ! My post seems to have disappeared !! I am making the LIttle Chicks hat. I've never added an edge ( while knitting---I have while crocheting) and this picot edge is giving me trouble. I am thinking that when I picked up the stitches, the "join" did not "join"......any suggestions ? Thanks !!!!Julie McG.

ReplyDeleteI am knitting the Little Chicks hat. I am having double with the picot edge. I do not think that when I "joined " my stitches that they actually joined.....so when I start the picot, it looks detached.
Any suggestions you have will be appreciated !! I practiced the picot on some other yarn and it seemed to do fine...but it was not "in the round".

I love children's books...sometimes more than adult ones. Thanks for the reviews and it was so nice to "hear" you and see a video of you. I will have to pick these up as books are my first passion and are responsible for leading me to all my other ones! LOL!
