New Days Ahead

Hi Knitters,
Yes, it is December 30th here in Wisconsin and it still looks like fall. It is strangely warm around here, at least warm to us. I think there is another day in the 40's on tap and there is no snow on the horizon. Some of us are enjoying the snow-less winter and some of us are really missing the piles of snow, the sledding, hiking through the snow, and especially the outdoor ice skating. I bet winter is still coming our way.

Enough of the weather chatter, this post is mainly to let you all know that I have decided to leave my job as curator of the Spud & Chloƫ blog. It is a happy and good decision. I am excited to focus even more on my family, to work on my own things, to go in my own directions, to focus more singly on one project at a time, and mostly, to have the chance to breathe a bit. I take all of my work very seriously and I would not leave without much thought and consideration about what's best for my family and me. It is all good!

Of course that doesn't mean I am really resting. I am into the editing phase for the manuscript for my 5th book right now (it's going to be a good one) and I am already onto planning and lining up my next book which is always a fun time. I can't wait to get going on a new book project, the beginning is the best time of that whole process.

Also, I am especially excited to have the chance to focus on my own blog more. I love it on here and I have some new plans brewing. You can always and still find me here, on Ravelry under susanbanderson and in my fun and fantastic Itty-Bitty Knits group (click here for the group), please come join us, or on Facebook (click here for my Facebook page) and on Twitter (click here). I'm not going anywhere.

So I am onto new days ahead. I'm taking a deep breath and enjoying my family time during this holiday break, and sneaking in a little knitting time here and there. Call me crazy but maybe, just maybe, I'll even read a novel or two at my leisure.....

That's my story. Happy new year to you, dear Knitters. Let's make 2012 the best and most knitterly year yet!

best, susie

  10. It's good to take more time for yourself and family. I'll miss "hearing" you talk on the Spud & Chloe blog but I'll still be a frequent flyer to your blog here and always love hearing what you are working on.

You brought my attention to S&C in a fun and wonderful way. Good luck on the editing of book 5 and beginning book 6. I CANNOT WAIT to see what you've come up with. :)

  11. Dear Susan,

I have been a great fan of yours ever since I met you a few years ago at the Wool Cabin in Salt Lake. I entered the store that day a huge fan of your knitting, but left a huge fan of Susan B, Anderson as well!

I know you meet a million knitters, and don't expect you to remember us, but that day I had 3 little boys in tow under the age of 6. You were so gracious and darling as I got to meet you, but the moment that endeared me to you most was when you encouraged my oldest, who was not excited about being "stuck with yarn" again, to try out your beautiful toys from Itty Bitty Toys that he had been eyeing. You were ever so patient and kind with my little crowd that day.

I've loved reading both your blogs and am inspired just as much by your cheerful and joyful mothering as well as your gorgeous knitting.

Keep up the great work both on and off the needles!
Here's to looking forward to a new endeavor!
    Sincerely,

    Emily Mecham

  12. Change is good! I'm excited to see what you have coming up, and I'm also wondering if you might have some fun KALs with other yarns. :) The big decision might have been difficult to make, but I wish you all of the best! Good luck!

  13. Yay for new adventures! For me, change is hard, but the hardest part is making the change! I wish you a wonderful 2012! I am excited to still keep up with you here and I am looking forward to see what is next! :)

  14. Happy New Year! (I'm in MN so I know what you mean about knowing that winter is STILL coming. We're always tricked some way or another into thinking spring is around the corner, but I know better, I do ;))

  18. I love your work and your presence, Susan. One of the things I admire most is your goal to balance family and knitting. From listening to your interviews at NNK and hearing about you on Knitcircus, it is clear that you are a hard worker, committed to your family and your craft. All the best in your next endeavor.

  20. I'll miss you over at Spud and Chloe - you were a great curator! But, family is infinitely more important - I left a job for the same reason earlier this year.

  21. Good for you! I know it must have been a hard decision, but I am happy for you. To be truthful, I felt that you were always under pressure to promote the Spud and Chloe yarns and since it is practically unavailable near me and it is rather expensive, I've never been able to use it for a project. Now I feel we both can relax and enjoy your patterns without guilt! That's good for both of us, I think.
You need to be more with your family-they leave the nest very quickly.
I'm looking forward to your new book and continued fun on this blog:)

  22. I'll miss you on Spud & Chloe but I know where to find you. I love your blog and I'm in your two classes at Craftsy. I really, really like it and am so glad I can go to it forever. It's great to know I have the videos when I'm not quite sure if I'm on the right track. Hey, now that you have more time :), you can make more videos on you tube......?
    Happy New Year

  23. Good for you! I'm sure it was a hard decision, but one you won't regret. My mom used to say the kids really need to know you are there for them when they are in high school - even if they are more independent. And those years go way too fast! Merry Christmas!

  29. It is sometimes hard to make decisions about change...but it sounds like a good one to me. I'll stick with you and your blog and will continue with that wonderful Spud and Chloe yarn that you introduced to us! 'See you at guild on Monday!

  30. Your blog has always been my favorite, so thank you for focusing on your family first and your personal work second! I have often wondered if you've considered a Ravelry group just for Susan B Anderson designs - for projects from all of your patterns (whether from Spud & Chloe, your books, other books and magazines, etc)?
