Hi Knitters,I bought my husband a fire pit for Father's Day. They set it up in our backyard in not so much of a jiffy. Of course the assembly didn't go smoothly. A drill was dragged into the mix when the screw holes wouldn't line up. Assembly of anything never goes well around here.
We broke the new fire pit in with some borrowed firewood from friends, sticks from the yard, graham crackers, Hershey's chocolate bars and marshmallows. Yay for s'mores! My son cracked out some hotdogs for a weinie roast to boot. Why not?
It was a good way to end an incredible weekend. I even had a visit from my favorite Blue Sky/Spud & Chloë boss lady here in Madison. We had some serious fun together. I love it because she shares her upcoming new yarn ideas with me and it is always so inspiring. Can you imagine being able to think up new and gorgeous yarns and then being able to make them come to life? And then the color aspect of her work is incredibly intriguing to me. Her sense of color is spot on and fresh and new every single time. It's plain cool and it's fun to be around.

ReplyDeleteI baked my Dad a rhubarb pie for Father's Day, and my sister and I went home for a visit with him. It was great to get to spend some time with both him and my Mom.
By the way, the fire pit looks like fun, and what better way to break it in than with s'mores! I'm sure your entire family will enjoy it this summer :-)
Jealous! We live near Memphis, TN and it is so hot we, ourselves, are roasting. Enjoy the pit.
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I rented a cottage in Door County right on the lake, on the quiet side! The little road in front of the cottage was a one-laner and the trees met overhead. I enjoyed the scenery and knit! Jill Pickle
ReplyDeleteLooks like fun! I started knitting "bunny" from your itty-bitty toys book...I'm using spud & chloe's ice cream color for the body and blue sky alpaca shell for the ears...I'm loving knitting this rabbit!
ReplyDeleteWe love to have fires in our fire pit. We have quite a few "marshmallow nights" with the neighbors. The kids love it.
ReplyDeleteAt our house, we cooked all the fresh vegetables coming from the garden...green beans, squash, carrots, tomatoes. The first "fresh meal" of the season is always the best. Love your blog.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Becky! We are in Houston and not only are we hot, we are soaking wet from humidity. It's so funny, though, because every night around 7 it cools off so without fail, our neighborhood is suddenly filled with walkers, rollerbladers, bikers, you name it. By 8:30 we all mosey on home and take shower number 3 for the day. Seriously. It may be hot and nasty outside, but we Texans INSIST on smelling beautiful!

Our Father's Day was relatively low key. Well, as low key as a day can be with a 20 month old and a 5 month old!

Well, my youngest son and DH went to the ball game together. My DD came over to have me help her get started on a t-shirt quilt. We had a grand time deciding on the shirts, and prepping them. She is a beginning sew-ist and it is fun to work with her.
ReplyDeleteWe have the blocks all sized up now. Next session is to cut the fabric strips that go around each one and start assembling. I am a big fan of Eleanor Burns and her quick techniques.
Oldest son called from far away and we had our first ever webcam chat.
In the evening the family that lives here all went out for Chinese Food. DD and her husband came too. Best news was a few hours later and my DD called to tell us that she felt her little 17 week along growing baby kick for the first time!!!! On Father's Day!
We also had a fire pit but ours is in the ground like a campfire. We live in the Rockies very near a ski resort so we firepit most of the summer. Not only did we celebrate Father's Day but also, our oldest daughter's birthday. Knitting by the fire is fun before it gets too dark!! Just makes your knitting smell kind of smokey!! Kathy
ReplyDeleteNext time try Super S'mores. Reese's Peanut Butter cup, Dark Chocolate, Peppermint Patty, or Mint Andes instead of the Hershey's it is delicious. We are enjoying 19 1/2 hours of daylight today, but it is difficult to concentrate on the stitches at that time of night even if we can see them. The pit will be used Saturday night for the get together we are hosting. We'll be using the costum made marshmallow roasters that my dad made, and have plenty of S'More makings at the ready. I'm working on the "Frog and Turtle" sure is fun. Think cool thoughts, and happy knitting.

1 soccer tournament involving 3 games for son #1 ..all between 8pm friday and 8pm sunday! yes, it was a blur!

ReplyDeleteHe got to golf and watch the Tigers with our little man, and I got to do some quilting while the baby napped. Very nice weekend indeed.
We went camping with 8 other families! There were 14 kids under 5 years old, it was crazy fun. I managed to get an hour or two knitting in - a baby hat of course.
