By George...

...I think she's got it.
Hi Knitters,
That's right, I finished up the Anne scarf this morning. After muddling through a few false starts I was determined to figure this thing out for good. I have a real newsflash when I tell you that the pattern was right and I just needed to trust and follow blindly. It worked like a charm. Thank you for a beautiful pattern and chart, MK Carroll.
I used Blue Sky Alpaca dyed cotton in a pumpkin color and I think a size G crochet hook. The pattern and my inspiration are both found here. For more inspiring pictures look here. Phew, those are pretty in her own handspun and hand dyed yarns. I wish I had some of that.
Mine's pretty, too, but in a different way.
My version of Anne is a gift for a sweet friend of mine. I can't wait to give it to her. I am definitely making more of these.

Okay, the business of the giveaway I promised in the last post is this. I have so much stuff to give away that I am debating on how I should do it. Should I do some separate smaller giveaways or one big blow-out giveaway? I am leaning toward the one large giveaway. I just have to photograph the stuff and I hope to do that tomorrow and get that up for the weekend.

In the meantime I couldn't wait to share my scarf. I feel accomplished today with my crochet even though this was incredibly simple. Anyone could crochet this pattern. You should give it a try.

best, susie

I went to my first knit-with-a-group last night and what's on the table? Itty-Bitty Hats (very worn pages).
Thanks for sharing with us Susan. You are very much loved.

  8. Your scarf is drop dead gorgeous. I can make a granny square, now I am wondering is I could do this.

I love the scarf! Now if only I could just teach myself to crochet so that I can make one for myself. Would it be too difficult to do the 'circles' in different colors?

The scarf is just beautiful....and I usually don't like crochet much. In fact, I think I have a big block about learning to crochet that I inherited from my knitting mother. My dad's mom tried to actually MAKE me crochet a potholder once before I could go home but that hardly worked! I took a 2 evening class at the Sow's Ear once from Erica and I am sure that she is glad that I couldn't come back the next week. But yours is pretty!

  13. Nikki,
It would totally be possible to do the circles in different colors, you would have more ends to work in, of course.

I was thinking how beautiful it would be in either Noro Silk Garden or Kureyon.

  14. Ellen,
If you can do a granny square you already have the skills for Anne. You need to chain, slip stitch, single crochet and double crochet and that's it.
    Go for it.

  15. Susan, what a pretty color (I've been on an orange/rust color binge lately) and a pretty scarf! You are so talented. Also, I totally blame you for the enormous order or Tahki cotton and Rowan cotton yarn that I just received for all the itty bitty hats I'm about to make. Of course, I blame you in the best way possible:)And let me be the first to say, don't dare hold back on the patterns that didn't make it into the book!!!

  18. So lovely - I love the orange against the green grass in the photos. I've still making the grannies - they really are so great to take in the heat because they're so small. I'm trying to make a double bed size afghan so I will be crocheting forever. I should post about them someday.

Glad the yarn and the bags arrived. Happy summer!

  19. Very pretty! I am a little scared of crochet. I was proud of myself for crocheting the edge on the 'Olive you' hat.

  20. Love this scarf!!! I have the perfect overdyed yarn to do one for a friend who wears scarves all the time - TFS!! I have been inspired by your granny squares - have wonderful memories of an afghan my husband's gma had and we have no idea where it went - so I will head down to my stash and check out the variety of colors available!! jill
